Weekend Refuge

What does a perfect weekend look like? Here's a start:

Agenda: Nothing
Destination: Up North on a lake somewhere
Supplies:
Golf clubs, guitars, fishing poles
Food: Eggs, sausage, hash browns , 2 large pizzas, 3 cases of beer, and a bottle of vodka (green olives too)

Although that was pretty much what the list consisted of, it really came down to the four other people I was with...my dad and 3 brothers that made this trip the beginning of many more to come!

Our journey began with a simple idea...start a family "man's" tradition! Little did we know this idea landed the 5 of us at this beautiful cabin (thanks to the Jon and Michele)

We took in a peaceful game of golf (for the record I think Dad won)...

...and then moved to the campfire for many more hours,

but not before a dusk kayak around the placid Lake Mary.

Although this trip came and went quickly, the tradition we have started has served as the catalyst for trips to come. Our agenda was "nothing", but for good reason. For some of us it was a time to reflect, reconnect, release, or just relax. Whatever the reason was for each of us, it only left one question in my mind as I sit here today; "where is next year's location going to be?"

Memories and traditions! It's the glue all families should use to bond with....I remember building the cabin with John and other cronnies in 1996...little did we know 12 years later it would start yet another Nowak family tradition....I'm so proud of all my boys! (and the women too!) You've enriched my life so much....it's my pleasure to share our lives together. The conversations together was the greatest part of the trip, sharing experiences, and offering guidance as a father usually does. I've always wanted my sons to walk honorably and with integrity through life, trying to clear some of the stones they may find in their path, but more importantly teaching them to walk, and sometimes run, firmly over them--not insisting on leading them as I did when younger, but "letting them go" to make their own path for themselves and their own families....I love you family! Dad

Hello Nowaks - Grandma Nowak here (chuck typing)
It's great to be together with your family and to say, "that was great, why don't we do that again"

"Hopefully we can find more time together and as we look back we remember how good it was"

"Have a great time", Love Grandma

What a wonderful "blog." We enjoy our cottage very much as well as the friendship we share with your family. John's father Ray selected Lake Mary as his "camp" in 1952 as a place for his family to enjoy and grow. So when we built our cottage with our family and friends we had to choose Lake Mary too! Your pictures captured the essence of Lake Mary and its pristine beauty. When all of you walked in with your "wide eyed" excitement it was fun to see. Of course I still see your faces as "little boys," I remember the first time I met your dear mother. Pushing a stroller with Joe, Robbie and Paul on each side. Its so nice to see you all as wonderful young men! Glad you had so much fun at the cabin! Thanks for sharing your pictures with us!

here, here, rob. and uncle bob. your reflections on your weekend make me proud to be in your family, to be an Ircink and to be from Wisconsin (though that Favre trade still stings and i must boycott the Pack this year in good conscience).

can't wait until my fishing trip in May. huzah!
